About This Event

Jazz innovator Steve Turre, composer, arranger, trombonist, and conch shell player, has consistently won both the readers and critics polls in JazzTimes, Down Beat, and Jazziz for Best Trombone and for Best Miscellaneous Instrumentalist (shells). Mr. Turre grew up in the San Francisco Bay area where he absorbed daily doses of mariachi, blues and jazz. While attending Sacramento State University, he joined the Escovedo Brothers salsa band, which began his career-long involv ent with that music genre. In 1972 his career gained momentum when Ray Charles hired him to go on tour. A year later, Mr. Turres mentor, Woody Shaw, brought him into Art Blakeys Jazz Messengers. After his tenure with Blakey, Mr. Turre went on to work with a diverse list of jazz, Latin, and pop musicians, including: Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, J.J. Johnson, Herbie Hancock, LesteRs subsidiary label, Antilles. Mr. Turre has been honored with a grant from the NEA for performance and the Outstanding Musician Award at the Jazz Yatra in IndiaAll GA sections (Main Floor GA & Miles Davis Mezzanine) will be seated by host and are first come, first served (other than where a reserved sign is posted to table). If you require special seating, please call the venue for accomodations no later than 48 hours prior to show date.Please note that if you do not purchase all seats aat a table, other customers may be seated at the table.~~*if you purchase dinner and show packages, dinner is two hours prior to showtime in the Boathouse 400 restaurant, located on the second floor of the hote. Dinner and show packages include a 3 course dinner, one complimentary glass of house red or white wine or non-alcoholic beverage, all staate and local taxes, 18% gratuity and complimentary parking in the hotel garage while enjoying dinner and show.
