Vibrant Boston Festivals in Summer 2019: Embrace the Spirit of the City
Summertime in Boston is truly a magical season. From the sparkling waters of Boston Harbor to street performers on the waterfront to fresh seafood eaten in the open air - you'll find endless ways to enjoy the summer and savor every moment. One of the best ways to connect with the true heart of the city during the summertime is by experiencing Boston festivals. Cheer at patriotic parades and participate in public art projects. Watch theatre on the grass at Boston Common and join a lobster bake on the seaside. Whatever you are interested in, you'll find Boston festivals where you can pursue your happiness - starting with the biggest 4th of July party of them all.

Celebrate the 4th of July Weekend at Boston Harborfest
Boston Harborfest isn't just another Fourth of July festival - it's the BIGGEST Independence Day celebration in the entire United States! Taking place this year July 1-4, the annual extravaganza is a non-stop celebration of the red, white, and blue. You'll find hundreds of events and activities throughout the four-day event, which kicks off with an Opening Ceremony at Faneuil Hall on July 1. There will be live music and entertainment at Downtown Crossing, along with an art show featuring local artists. Enjoy fireworks every night and daily tours with costumed guides along the Freedom Trail. Check out fun historical reenactments across the Boston area and vote for your favorite chowder at Boston Chowderfest. With sightseeing cruises, Boston Pops concerts, and a patriotic parade - Harborfest is Boston's signature summertime festival.

Free Your Mind at the Figment Arts Festival on Rose Kennedy Greenway
Don't just go to an art festival - participate in an art festival! This unique, interactive event on July 27-28 draws spectators into the fold with creative activities and hands-on experiences. You'll find fun art installations and performances along the expanse of the Greenway, including large-scale sculptures, colorful murals, and shareworthy street art. Encounter street performers, dancers, and musicians along the way as well, from the North End Parks to the South Station. Meet local artists and g et inspired to express yourself!

St. Anthony's Feast in the North End: Authentic Italian Street Festival
This boisterous religious procession and block party has been happening every year since 1919, when it was introduced to the city of Boston by Italian immigrants. Honoring Saint Anthony with a colorful celebration, the feast takes place August 22-25 and features strolling singers, live music, entertainment, parades, contests, and religious ceremonies. Sample street foods from 100+ Italian vendors and shop for unique local mementos. Watch cooking demonstrations and witness a giant open-air Mass. St. Anthony's Feast is just one of many Italian feasts that happen every year in the North End in August, others include St. Lucia's Feast, Fisherman's Feast, and Madonna Della Cava Feast.

Family-Friendly Boston Seafood Festival & All-Day Lobster Bake
Head to Boston's historic Fish Pier on Sunday, August 4 for a delicious seafood celebration. Eating fresh fish, lobster, oysters, and clams from the city's top seafood vendors is the highlight of this event, but you'll find plenty more activities to keep you entertained. Watch chef demonstrations and an oyster shucking contest. Listen to live performances by local musicians. Find face painting and other special just-for-kids activities. And don't miss the all-day lobster bake - it's the ideal way to experience this beloved New England tradition. Bon appetit!

Boston Jazz Festival: Outdoor Music at Maritime Park
Jazz is an authentic American art form and a perfect pairing with Boston, an authentic American city. Listen to jazz in all its many forms at the Boston Jazz Festival on August 30-31 at Boston Maritime Park, which is located in the Seaport District. Now in its ninth year, the festival celebrates jazz's African America roots as well as its futuristic contemporary versions. Kick back and soak in the sounds of fresh jazz. You'll also find unique local vendors and great Boston food, all in a beautiful open-air setting on the waterfront.

Sit Back & Enjoy the Fresh Air at Shakespeare on the Common
Enjoy the "idle pleasure of these days" with a live performance of Shakespeare's Richard III at Boston Common this summer. The Bard's famous tragedy about the Machiavellian King Richard III of England is this summer's show at Shakespeare on the Common, and you can watch it live from July 18 through August 5 every day of the week except for Monday. Rent chairs or bring your own blanket and revel in this Boston summertime tradition.
